SDF BACKGROUND
Silver Diamine Fluoride (SDF) is a topically applied liquid that provides a simple, efficient, and minimally invasive approach to arresting already formed dental caries (cavities) in both children and adults. SDF has been in use in other countries for more than 80 years, and FDA approved in the U.S. for reducing tooth sensitivity. Off-label use is permissible and appropriate under U.S. law to arrest and prevent caries.
CURRENT APPLICATION CHALLENGES
Current modalities to apply SDF in-between teeth are challenging for the dentist. Absorbing or expandable string dental floss is utilized as the carrier for the SDF. A strand of floss is placed by hand, and SDF is then applied to the floss using a microbrush. The SDF will 'wick' across the floss, penetrate into the cavity, and helps to arrest the decay.
Isolating the string floss from the tongue, cheeks, lips, and gums is difficult for dentists. SDF also has a very bitter taste and will stain these areas black if in direct contact!
CAVITY FACTS
Dental caries are the most common chronic infectious disease of childhood. In fact, 1 out of 5 kids have cavities before age 11. SDF is a breakthrough treatment option requiring no drilling and no shots.
~45 million children will see a dentist this year in the U.S.
~ 19 million of these children have cavities in their baby teeth!
~ 12 million of those children have in-between teeth cavities, which SDFlosser™ is specifically designed for.
~Research shows that SDF stops 80% of these cavities when applied twice/year by a dentist.
ENGINEERING
SDFlosser™ is designed and engineered for high volume production utilizing an injection molding process.
Two separate parts are ultrasonically 'bonded' together to include a unique, absorbable section of floss
The floss end is inserted into the handle, packaged, and ready for use
~The completed unit is packaged and ready for dentist use to apply SDF with standard microbrush. (SDF and microbrush not included).
~Removable replacement tips are also available for use in multiple quadrants of the same patient.
~After use, SDFlosser™ is conveniently disposed of, minimizing risk of staining patient or treatment area.
